We asked Jim a few questions about work and play.
- What does your working day consist of?
- My workday generally starts either at home or during my travel time to the office. I try and make contact with Customers, Contractors and Employees to get a feel for the previous days accomplishments and what is necessary to continue our progress moving forward. Once I reach the office I balance everyday project operations with sales opportunities and assist with presentations and project bids. In short I wear as many hats as necessary to assist the company in being successful.
- How do you spend your free time?
- Define free please. I enjoy a number of activities and it hard to place a finger on my favorite. I enjoy golf and try to play as much as I can although you couldn’t tell by my scorecard. I also thoroughly enjoy boating, fishing, traveling and photography which really work well together. Recently I have taken on building my own computers which I really enjoy along with learning to modify gaming software.
- Favorite Food?
- If I don’t start off with anything my wife cooks as an answer I’ll be in trouble so with that said there is nothing better than steak or prime rib cooked on my own grill on the back patio. Add a few sautéed mushrooms and steamed vegetables and I’m in heaven.
- What four people would you invite (from any point in history) to eat with you?
- Dinner anyone? Warren Buffet was instrumental in several companies that I’ve worked with in the past. I actually met him in Omaha, Nebraska and he is very approachable and giving. Who wouldn’t want to have dinner with one of the world’s greatest investors and philanthropist? John F Kennedy had an impact on not only America but internationally. I remember his charismatic ways and saw firsthand how he reacted to the Cuban Missile Crisis and was instrumental in developing the Peace Corps. I remember standing in line in 1964 to be one of the first to receive a Kennedy half dollar. Albert Einstein had over 300 scientific works. He was by all means a genius. I’m sure I wouldn’t get a word in at dinner which would be just fine with me. Raquel Welch, need I say more?
- Favorite Place?
- Los Suenos, Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. The name itself translates to “The Dream”. Seven active volcanoes, tropical rain forest and wonderful people make it my favorite destination.
- My (ex) best kept secret?
- I graduated in my junior year from high school at the ripe old age of 17. I played baseball in school as well as other organizations from the time I was able to walk. In a championship game for the State of Georgia the scouts were out in force to watch a young pitcher from the team we were competing against. The pitcher failed to impress the scouts but they stayed throughout the entire game. I had one of the best games of my life including sending a hanging curve ball approximately 450’ over the right field fence. When I rounded third base the scouts asked “What’s your name son”. I was soon after asked to try out for the Kansas City Royals and was chosen to play in their minor league organization.
